In the summer of 2022, the life of a young Knoxville mother was tragically cut short, leaving a community searching for answers. On the evening of Saturday, July 16, 2022, officers from the Knoxville Police Department responded to a call in an alley in the 2500 block of Louise Avenue. There, they discovered 26-year-old Jefasha L. Mitchell unresponsive in a parked car, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Emergency responders performed life-saving measures before rushing her to the
University of Tennessee Medical Center, but sadly, she was pronounced dead. Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit descended upon the scene, interviewing several people and combing the area for any evidence that could shed light on the circumstances leading to her death. Her death was officially ruled a homicide.
In the days that followed, the investigation into Jefasha Mitchell's murder continued, though authorities did not publicly identify a suspect. Friends and family remembered her as a devoted mother and a person with a 'sassy and classy sense of life.'
