In the spring of 2020, the life of 33-year-old Frank Walter Johnson IV was tragically cut short in Chattanooga, Tennessee. On the evening of May 8th, Chattanooga Police responded to a call of a person shot in the 4000 block of Teakwood Drive. Upon their arrival, they discovered Johnson outside a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response and efforts of Hamilton County EMS, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of
Johnson, a former Tyner High School student and a father to four children, stretched on for over a year. The community and his family, including his mother Penny McCoy and brother Cortney McCoy, awaited answers. Finally, on September 13, 2021, the Chattanooga Police Department announced a significant breakthrough in the case. Two suspects, 28-year-old Devonte White and 29-year-old Dominique Brown, were taken into custody at the Silverdale Detention Center.
Both White and Brown were charged with first-degree murder and felony reckless endangerment in connection with Johnson's death. The arrests marked a pivotal moment in the quest for justice for Johnson and his loved ones. The case against the two men then began to move through the court system, drawing attention from local media and the community, all hoping for a resolution to a violent act that had taken a man from his family.
