On a summer evening in Nashville, Tennessee, a Fourth of July celebration turned into a scene of tragedy. Maurice Bowers, a 31-year-old Black man, was enjoying a holiday gathering at a home in the 500 block of Phipps Drive on July 4, 2020. Suddenly, the festive atmosphere was shattered by the sound of gunfire as at least one individual began shooting into the crowd of partygoers.
In the chaos that ensued, Maurice Bowers was struck by a bullet.
He was rushed by a private vehicle to Skyline Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and it has not been determined if Bowers was the intended target of the violence.
Following an investigation by the Metro Nashville Police Department, a suspect was identified and apprehended. On July 14, 2020, 27-year-old Treanous Bowers was arrested and charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of Maurice Bowers. Authorities have stated that there is no known relationship between the victim and the accused. At the time of the arrest, police indicated that they anticipated additional arrests in the ongoing investigation. The resolution of the criminal charges against Treanous Bowers, including any trial or conviction, has not been publicly reported.
