A road rage incident in Nashville, Tennessee, on the afternoon of October 22, 2020, escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 35-year-old Joshua Kevin McCrary. The male victim was caught in a tragic chain of events that began with a minor traffic collision and ended in gunfire.
The incident was set in motion when a maroon Camry sideswiped a white Chevrolet Impala on Brick Church Pike.
The driver of the Impala pursued the Camry and called on friends for assistance, one of whom was McCrary, who arrived in a white Audi SUV. Together, they managed to block the Camry in traffic on West Trinity Lane. At this point, McCrary, who was armed with a pistol in his waistband, exited his vehicle and attempted to open a door of the Camry.
A passenger in the backseat of the Camry, identified as 19-year-old Maceo Parker Jr., confronted McCrary. According to Parker's account to the police, a struggle ensued over McCrary's firearm. Parker stated that he was able to wrestle the gun away and then shot McCrary with it. After the shooting, Parker got back into the Camry and the vehicle fled the scene. As they were driving away, Parker was shot in the neck by an unknown individual.
The driver of the Impala once again gave chase, ultimately crashing into the fleeing Camry and causing it to spin into a wall at the intersection of Brick Church Pike and West Trinity Lane. Responding officers found Parker and the other occupants of the Camry at a nearby fast-food restaurant. Parker was transported to a hospital for his neck injury. McCrary was found in his Audi at the West Trinity Lane interchange with I-65 and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The driver of the Impala and his vehicle were later located at a Motel 6 on Brick Church Pike.
In the immediate aftermath, all individuals involved in the incident were identified and interviewed by the Homicide Unit of the Metro Nashville Police Department. Detectives were in consultation with the District Attorney's Office. At the time of the incident, Parker was serving a six-year supervised probated sentence for convictions of auto theft and felony evading arrest from April 2020. As of late October 2020, the investigation was ongoing, and no charges had been filed in relation to the death of Joshua McCrary. There is no publicly available information regarding any subsequent arrests, charges, trials, or convictions in this case.
