In the afternoon hours of December 2, 2020, a violent encounter in a North Nashville alley claimed the life of Christopher Latrell Webber, a 25-year-old man. Webber had driven his black Mercedes into an alley situated between Blank Street and 16th Avenue North when he was suddenly met with a barrage of gunfire. It is believed that Webber attempted to defend himself, as evidence suggests he returned fire through his own windshield while reversing his vehicle.
The sequence of events ended tragically as his car crashed into a building at the intersection of 16th Avenue North and Jackson Street.
Responding officers from the North Precinct quickly arrived at the chaotic scene and provided immediate medical assistance to Webber. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival. The investigation into the fatal shooting was promptly taken over by the Homicide Unit, with Detective James Davis leading the effort to piece together the circumstances of Webber's death.
The investigation into Christopher Webber's murder led authorities to identify an acquaintance, Kenneth Bradford, as the primary suspect. On April 29, 2021, detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department's TITANS Unit arrested the 27-year-old Bradford. His arrest came after a grand jury issued an indictment for first-degree murder. Bradford was taken into custody at the courthouse, where he was scheduled to appear for unrelated charges. Following his arrest, he declined to answer questions from detectives before being booked on the murder indictment.
