In the city of Nashville, Tennessee, on February 28, 2022, a young man's life was cut tragically short. Charles Andrew Rooks, a 23-year-old male, was found in the driver's seat of his Nissan Sentra on Dellway Drive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The car had crashed into another parked vehicle in a driveway, a final, devastating consequence of the violence that had unfolded.

The investigation into the death of Charles Rooks, led by Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit, soon began to uncover the circumstances that led to this violent end. What emerged was a narrative of a robbery that escalated to murder. Detectives determined that the motive for the shooting was likely the theft of a firearm that was in Rooks's possession. The case was spearheaded by Detective Cyretha Frazier, whose work would prove instrumental in bringing suspects to justice.

Within days of the discovery of Rooks's body, the investigation led to two teenage suspects. Demontrez Williams and Kevonte Lane, both 17 years old at the time, were identified as the individuals responsible for the death of Charles Rooks. Kevonte Lane was taken into custody on March 1st by TITANS detectives with assistance from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office. His arrest occurred on I-24 in Rutherford County, and he was initially charged with unlawful gun possession and a probation violation.

The second suspect, Demontrez Williams, was apprehended by Homicide and TITANS detectives at his residence on March 7th. In a startling revelation, it was discovered that at the time of the murder, Williams was wearing a state-issued ankle monitor in connection with a previous arrest for aggravated robbery and unlawful gun possession. Both teenagers were subsequently charged with criminal homicide and especially aggravated robbery for their roles in the death of Charles Andrew Rooks.
