In the early morning hours of a summer Saturday in Nashville, the life of 20-year-old Dontario Graham was cut short by a barrage of gunfire. On July 10, 2021, at approximately 1:15 a.m., an eruption of violence occurred in a parking lot situated behind 1602 21st Avenue South. The incident began as an exchange of shots between two unidentified men, but the conflict quickly escalated as several other individuals reportedly drew handguns, unleashing a chaotic scene where more than 100 shots were
fired. Amid the mayhem, Graham was struck. He was rushed in a private vehicle to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but the severity of his wounds proved fatal, and he died at the hospital.
Homicide detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department immediately began the task of unraveling the violent events that led to Graham's death. Their investigation focused on identifying the numerous individuals involved in the shootout and understanding the catalyst for the deadly confrontation. Through the efforts of the Homicide Unit and the specialized TITANS team, a suspect was identified in the fatal shooting of Dontario Graham. Investigators pinpointed 19-year-old Jasun Patterson as the alleged shooter.
Less than three weeks after the shooting, on July 30, 2021, the investigation culminated in an arrest. Acting on information developed by detectives, law enforcement located Jasun Patterson inside a residence in Pleasant View, Tennessee. With the cooperation of the Pleasant View Police and the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office, TITANS detectives took Patterson into custody without incident. He was transported to MNPD headquarters, where he declined to give a statement to investigators. Jasun Patterson was subsequently charged with criminal homicide for his alleged role in the death of Dontario Graham and was booked into the Downtown Detention Center, where he was held without bond.
