In the quiet town of Clarksville, Tennessee, a domestic scene turned into a tragedy on the evening of January 20, 2021, ending the life of 30-year-old Rachel Elizabeth Konen, a Caucasian female. What unfolded at a residence on Westwood Drive also claimed the life of her 62-year-old father, David Rogers, leaving a family shattered and a community in search of answers.
The initial call to 911 came from Rachel's husband, Matthew Konen, a 31-year-old paramedic with the Nashville Fire
Department. In a frantic call, he told dispatchers that his father-in-law had shot his wife. He claimed that in a desperate act of self-defense, believing he would be shot next, he had 'pistol-whipped' Rogers into unconsciousness. While on the phone, Matthew reported that he was performing CPR on his wife, who was taking agonal breaths. Despite his efforts, neither Rachel nor her father survived their injuries. An investigation later revealed that Rachel had been shot, while her father had been beaten to death.
The investigation into the double fatality led detectives from the Clarksville Police Department's Special Operations Homicide Unit to arrest Matthew Konen. He was charged with two counts of criminal homicide for the deaths of his wife and father-in-law. Throughout the legal proceedings, Matthew maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to the charges of first-degree murder in June 2021.
The case took a significant turn in October 2023 when the state of Tennessee decided to drop the charges against him. However, the freedom was short-lived. In May 2025, a Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Matthew Konen on two counts of first-degree murder, bringing the case back to the forefront. Following the indictment, he was arrested again and booked into the Montgomery County Jail, with a trial to be scheduled. The tragic deaths of Rachel Konen, a mother of four, and her father, David Rogers, continue to be a source of grief for their surviving family and friends.
