In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 6, 2021, a house party on Ewing Boulevard in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, turned tragic. Amidst a physical altercation that broke out inside the duplex, multiple gunshots were fired. When the chaos subsided, 21-year-old Giovanni Mikhail Gillis, a male, had been fatally shot. Two other individuals were also struck by bullets and were transported by friends to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital before being transferred to a Nashville hospital in stable
condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Two additional partygoers were grazed by bullets but declined medical treatment at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect. On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, 23-year-old Larry Johnson, II, was apprehended in Cheatham County, Tennessee. His arrest was carried out by members of the Rutherford County Criminal Warrants Division, with assistance from the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office and Murfreesboro Police Department detectives. Johnson was taken into custody without incident and charged with first-degree murder for his alleged role in the death of Giovanni Gillis. He was subsequently booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where he was held without bond pending a court appearance scheduled for April 5, 2021, in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
