On a summer evening in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the life of Breunte Jaylon Combs, a 23-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. On August 9, 2020, officers from the Murfreesboro Police Department were dispatched to The Pointe at Raiders Crossing Apartments at approximately 6:42 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Inside one of the apartments, they discovered Combs, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
He was found by his roommates, and despite the immediate response from emergency services, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
When law enforcement arrived, the individual or individuals responsible for the shooting had already fled, and no suspect was immediately identified. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division began an extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young man's death. The initial stages of the investigation focused on gathering evidence from the apartment and seeking information from the community.
