In a tragic turn of events stemming from a dispute, 19-year-old Dantay Campbell lost her life inside her Nashville, Tennessee, apartment on June 6, 2021. The young woman was discovered unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom of her 14th Avenue South residence and was quickly transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into the female's death swiftly pointed toward a domestic conflict.
Authorities determined that Campbell had been fatally wounded by a rifle. In the immediate aftermath, detectives announced they were pursuing strong leads and recovered a semi-automatic rifle from a dumpster near the apartment complex. The focus of the investigation soon centered on Campbell's own roommate, creating a grim narrative of a disagreement that escalated to a fatal conclusion.
Months later, the investigation culminated in an arrest. In December 2021, Dantay Campbell's roommate, Aniyah Jones, who was also 19 years old at the time, was indicted by a grand jury. Jones was taken into custody and faced charges of second-degree murder and evidence tampering. The investigation, led by Homicide Unit Detective Myriah Iles, concluded that an argument between the two roommates preceded the fatal shooting. Following her indictment, Jones was held on a $75,000 bond.
