In March of 2020, the life of 33-year-old Holly Williams, a Caucasian female, came to a tragic and violent end in Nashville, Tennessee. On March 13, a construction worker discovered a crashed 2005 white Acura sedan at a construction site off Old Hickory Boulevard. Inside the vehicle were the bodies of Williams and her 36-year-old estranged boyfriend, William Lanway.
Autopsies would later confirm that both had died from multiple gunshot wounds in what was quickly classified as a double homicide.
The investigation into their deaths unraveled a complex and shocking murder-for-hire plot that spanned multiple states. The motive behind the killings was traced back to an extramarital affair between Williams and Erik Charles Maund, a Texas auto dealer. After their brief relationship, Maund, who was married, began receiving text messages from William Lanway, who threatened to expose the affair if he was not paid. In an effort to keep the affair a secret, Maund allegedly hired three men to kill Lanway and Williams.
The men hired for the plot were Gilad Peled, who owned a security company in Austin and claimed to be a former member of the Israeli Defense Forces, and two former U.S. Marines, Bryon Brockway and Adam Carey. Investigators determined that Maund paid the men over $750,000 to carry out the murders. On March 12, 2020, Brockway and Carey allegedly confronted Williams and Lanway in the parking lot of Williams' apartment complex. They are accused of shooting Lanway multiple times, killing him on the spot. They then allegedly kidnapped Williams, driving her and Lanway's body to the construction site where they were later found. It was there that Williams was also shot and killed.
After an extensive investigation that involved the FBI and the Nashville Metro Police Department, all four men were arrested in December 2021. The arrests took place across several states. Erik Charles Maund, Gilad Peled, Bryon Brockway, and Adam Carey were all charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, kidnapping resulting in death, and carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. If convicted, they face up to life in prison.
