In the autumn of 2021, Jerriny Caples, a 26-year-old Black mother of two, was navigating life in Memphis, Tennessee with a renewed sense of hope. She had recently reunited with her long-term boyfriend, who had just been released from prison. She was focused on her children and rebuilding her family. However, on the night of November 11, 2021, a senseless act of violence shattered those dreams. Jerriny was found in her vehicle in the Nutbush neighborhood, having been fatally shot.
