In the late hours of a Friday night in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 39-year-old Ervin Qytrone Terrell was tragically cut short. On November 19, 2021, Memphis police responded to a call of shots fired near the airport, on Ketchum Road. Upon arrival at the 2300 block of Ketchum at 11:45 p.m., they discovered Terrell in the middle of the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing gunshots and seeing several men around a red Ford Escape, with one man lying on the ground. One witness was able to recognize the driver. Investigators utilized footage from Real Time Crime Center cameras which captured a struggle inside the vehicle, followed by the driver exiting the car and shots being fired. The video also showed the driver striking Terrell with a handgun as he lay in the street.
Following the incident, the suspect or suspects fled in an SUV-type vehicle. The investigation led police to identify 39-year-old Bouya Ba as a suspect, after a license plate reader captured the vehicle's information. Ba was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Ervin Terrell's death. He was held in jail without bond.
