On a November day that began with the promise of Christmas shopping, Jayson Hill’s life was tragically cut short in the parking lot of the Oak Court Mall in Memphis. It was November 20, 2021, when Hill, a father who had recently taken on a second job to provide for his family, was ambushed and fatally shot. In a heart-wrenching turn of events, his nine-month-old son, Jaylen, was also struck by gunfire, sustaining multiple serious injuries. Hill was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
The investigation into the brutal attack revealed a motive rooted in misguided revenge. The man responsible for the shooting, Quante Webb, believed that Hill had been involved in the shooting of his own brother, a claim that law enforcement had not substantiated. Fueled by this belief, Webb orchestrated a plan to confront Hill. He had someone follow Hill through the mall and signal him when he was leaving. As Hill stepped outside, Webb opened fire, shooting him in the back of the head and arm. One of the bullets tragically struck his infant son.
