Jayson Hill, a 21-year-old man from Memphis, TN, was tragically shot and killed on November 20, 2021, outside Oak Court Mall in East Memphis. At the time of his death, Hill was holding his 9-month-old son, Jaylen Barnes, who was also injured in the shooting but fortunately survived and received treatment at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Hill's family reported that he had been at the mall to do some Christmas shopping and they were unaware of any reason why he would have been targeted.
