In the spring of 2022, the life of Jasper Nikita Strickland, a 30-year-old African American man from Memphis, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. On May 28, 2022, Strickland was inside a vehicle when he was shot multiple times. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was ultimately pronounced dead.
The investigation into Strickland's death, led by the Memphis Police Department's Homicide Bureau and the Multi-Agency Gang Unit, soon connected his killing to a shooting that had occurred at
a McDonald's on East Shelby Drive in the Whitehaven neighborhood of Memphis. The case drew significant attention as it highlighted the ongoing challenges of gang-related violence within the community.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. Mohamed Samba, who was 26 at the time, and Quentin Moss, then 32, were both alleged to be members of the Young Mob gang. Both men were taken into custody and charged with First Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder for their roles in the death of Jasper Strickland. Law enforcement indicated that additional charges were expected as they continued to gather evidence in the case.
