On an autumn evening in Knoxville, Tennessee, the quiet of Holston Hills Road was broken by the discovery of a young man's body. On October 10, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Knoxville Police Department received a call about a man lying unresponsive in the road near Holston River Park. Upon their arrival, officers found 27-year-old Brandon Smiles of Warren, Michigan, deceased at the scene. It was determined that he had suffered at least one gunshot wound.
