On a tragic evening in Knoxville, Tennessee, the life of Travis Donald Wegener, a 28-year-old male, was cut short. On August 15, 2014, Wegener was at the home of his friends, the Womack family, on Inskip Road. The night took a horrifying turn when Michael William Little, a 21-year-old Knoxville police cadet and the ex-boyfriend of Ashley Womack, arrived at the residence.
Little had a conversation with the Womack family and Wegener on the back patio.
As he was pretending to leave, he unexpectedly drew a. 45-caliber handgun and opened fire. Wegener and Rhonda Womack, Ashley's mother, were both struck by bullets. Travis Donald Wegener was pronounced dead at the scene. Little then proceeded to shoot his ex-girlfriend, Ashley Womack, injuring her as well.
In a desperate act to protect his family, Ashley's brother, Joshua Womack, retrieved a rifle from inside the house and engaged in a gunfight with Little. During the exchange of gunfire, Joshua Womack fatally shot Michael Little. As the suspect was killed during the commission of the crime, no arrests were made in connection to the death of Travis Wegener.
