In the early hours of what should have been a celebration, 22-year-old Kodie Mikey Lewis was found dead in Memphis, Tennessee. It was his birthday, December 13, 2022, when his body was discovered at 1:26 a.m. in an abandoned apartment complex on Pendleton Street. He had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kodie, a male, was described by those who knew him as a 'gentle giant' and 'everyone's friend.'
He was at a promising point in his life, having recently moved into his own apartment and started a new position at his job. He was also beginning to make a name for himself in the local drag community, performing under the name 'Ivy Royale' at Dru's Place, a midtown bar. His performances were well-received, and he was a beloved figure in the community.
The circumstances surrounding his death suggest a violent robbery. According to his mother, Kodie was shot, and his car, phone, and legal firearm were stolen. The Memphis Police Department's investigation into his death is ongoing.
As of now, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The lack of information has left his family, friends, and the community seeking answers and justice for a life they feel was taken far too soon. In the wake of his death, the community has come together to support his family, with local establishments holding fundraisers to help with funeral expenses.
