Constable William Davidson, aged 56, was shot and killed on April 14, 1825, while en route to serve a warrant in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania. Davidson encountered a second man near the mouth of Big Scrubgrass Creek, who was also heading to the home of the man named on the warrant, but with the intent to kill him. When Davidson ordered the man to drop the rifle he was carrying, the man opened fire, resulting in Davidson's death.
