Adrionne Reaves, a 49-year-old man from Bala Cynwyd, PA, tragically died on December 31, 2021, from a gunshot wound to the head. Reaves was found dead in the lobby of the Delwyn Apartments in Bala Cynwyd by Lower Merion Police at around 9:55 p.m. The incident occurred following a domestic dispute between Reaves and his fiancé, Joi Furman. After the dispute, Reaves called his daughter to pick him up, and they returned to the apartment complex to look for his misplaced keys.
Surveillance footage showed Reaves collapsing to the floor in the lobby, followed by a thin person dressed in black exiting the area.
Samiyah Williams, a 24-year-old woman from Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and possessing an instrument of crime in connection with Reaves's death. Williams turned herself in to the Lower Merion Police on January 3, 2022. Investigators found that Williams, who is the daughter of Joi Furman, owned a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and had a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm. Williams was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Karen Eisner Zucker, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for January 21, 2022.
In January 2023, Williams pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and was sentenced to 12½ to 25 years in prison. During the sentencing, Williams expressed remorse and apologized for her actions, but the judge emphasized that her actions were not justified and imposed the maximum sentence. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of domestic disputes and the importance of seeking legal and non-violent solutions to conflicts.
