On December 9, 1905, Patrolman Bruce A. Patton, aged 27, of the Coraopolis Borough Police Department in Pennsylvania, succumbed to gunshot wounds he received four days earlier. Patton was attempting to arrest a man for disorderly conduct when the suspect fled the scene. The suspect, who used a handgun, managed to escape and was still at large as of September 1906. It remains unknown whether the suspect was ever apprehended.
