Police Officer George Niel Barnett, aged 39, was shot and killed on November 28, 1910, in Philadelphia, PA. Officer Barnett, who was in plainclothes, approached a suspicious man he suspected of being involved in a burglary at 41st Street and Pine Street. He instructed the man to take his hands out of his pockets, and as the man complied, he suddenly produced a revolver and shot Officer Barnett. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Barnett returned fire and shot and killed the suspect.
