On September 16, 1911, Patrolman John W. Kissinger, a 53-year-old white male, was fatally shot while assisting in the arrest of an intoxicated individual at a residence in the 1300 block of Locust Street in Reading, Pennsylvania. During a struggle at the back door of the house, the suspect produced a .38 caliber handgun and shot Patrolman Kissinger.
