Wayne Leigh Rifendifer, a 30-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity from Bridgeport, Connecticut, was found dead on August 19, 1981, in a densely wooded area near Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. Rifendifer, who was a hitchhiker, was discovered nude and had been shot in the back of the head. The autopsy revealed that he had also been sexually mutilated. The cause of death was determined to be homicide.
