In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 13, 1982, Deputy Sheriff Roy James Fortson Jr., a 35-year-old male, was off-duty at the Majestic Bar at the intersection of 36th and Spring Garden Streets in Philadelphia. At approximately 2:00 a.m., two masked men entered the establishment and announced a robbery. One of the men stood guard at the front door while the other approached the bar and robbed the bartender.
