Death by Force

Deputy Sheriff Roy James Fortson Jr., aged 35, was shot and killed on November 13, 1982, while attempting to stop a robbery at a bar in Philadelphia, PA. Fortson, who was unarmed at the time, tackled one of the two masked robbers as they attempted to flee the scene. During the struggle, he was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries. The suspects, aged 21 and 26, were later apprehended. The older suspect was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
