On June 10, 1983, Patrolman Charles E. Attig Jr., aged 25, was shot and killed while on duty in Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania. Attig, a male Caucasian, was a dedicated officer who had served with the Shamokin Dam Borough Police Department for three years. He was also a United States Army veteran.
