In the spring of 2018, the life of 48-year-old Ronald Rusin was brought to a tragic and violent end in the city of Philadelphia. On April 25th of that year, Rusin, a former Philadelphia police officer, was discovered in the basement of a home on Vista Street in the Rhawnhurst section of the city. He had been fatally shot in the neck.
The investigation into his death quickly moved forward, and within weeks, two teenage suspects were taken into custody.
Police arrested 18-year-old Mulbah Mazue-Acquoi and 19-year-old Alex Oliveira in connection with the slaying. Investigators believe that the motive for the killing was a robbery that was related to a drug transaction. According to authorities, the two suspects had arranged to meet with Rusin, intending to rob him. It was during this encounter that Oliveira is alleged to have fired the fatal shot.
Both Mazue-Acquoi and Oliveira were subsequently charged with murder, robbery, and other related offenses for their roles in the death of Ronald Rusin. The case highlighted the dangers of the city's criminal underworld, and the tragic consequences that can result from a confluence of drugs and violence. Rusin, who had once served on the city's police force in the 1990s, became another victim of the violence he had once sworn to combat.
