Detective Norman Alexander Stewart, aged 51, was a dedicated officer with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. On September 16, 1983, he tragically lost his life during an undercover narcotics raid at the Terrace Village Housing Project in the Hill District section of Pittsburgh. Stewart and his partner were investigating reports of multiple drug transactions at an apartment on Allequippa Street.
