On a cold January evening in 2016, the life of 17-year-old Raymond O'Neal was cut short by gunfire in the Pittsburgh suburb of Penn Hills. The male teenager, who was also known as 'Tank' and had described himself on social media as an 'upcoming artist,' was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds on the sidewalk of Upland Terrace on Tuesday, January 19th.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Neighbors reported hearing as many as ten gunshots, shattering the quiet of the 8900 block of the residential street. When police arrived, they discovered O'Neal's body. The investigation into his death would soon reveal a complicated and violent backstory that left authorities with more questions than answers. Investigators learned that this was not the first time O'Neal had been a target of gun violence.
Just months prior, in June of the previous year, O'Neal was one of three people wounded in a shooting that occurred on Frankstown Road, a location unsettlingly close to where his life would ultimately end.
