In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Pittsburgh's Hill District, the life of James W. Goodwine, a 21-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short. On August 23, 2020, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the quiet streets, prompting a ShotSpotter alert that would lead police to a grim discovery. When officers arrived at the 600 block of Elmore Street, they found Goodwine suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest and leg.
