Kai Thomas, a 19-year-old from Pittsburgh, was killed on July 8, 2016. His death was one of many homicides that took place during a particularly violent year in the city. The murder happened during a time when Pittsburgh faced a surge in homicides, many of which remain unsolved. In 2016, Pittsburgh recorded 59 homicides, making it one of the most violent years in the city's recent history.
Unfortunately, only about half of these cases were solved, with the majority of victims being Black men like Kai Thomas.
