In the fall of 1995, the life of Brian Zernell, a 35-year-old male, was tragically cut short in Chester, Pennsylvania. On October 3rd of that year, a violent encounter in the 700 block of Green Street resulted in Zernell being shot. He succumbed to his injuries four days later, on October 7, 1995.
The investigation into his untimely death led authorities to a suspect, Brian Parnell.
The events of that October day were pieced together, culminating in charges of second-degree murder and burglary being filed against Parnell. The legal process that followed would span several years as the case made its way through the justice system.
Ultimately, in July of 2002, Brian Parnell was convicted for his role in the death of Brian Zernell. Despite subsequent appeals and habeas corpus petitions, the conviction was upheld, bringing a measure of closure to a case that had lingered for years and forever altered the lives of those involved.
