Balir Starkey, a 34-year-old man from Chester, Pennsylvania, was tragically shot and killed on October 10, 2020. The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. on Crosby Street, where Starkey was found lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Starkey succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects: Lamar Eric Linehan and Rashee Lamar Thomas.
Linehan, a 25-year-old Chester resident, was identified as the gunman who fired multiple shots in Starkey's direction. A grainy night-vision surveillance camera captured the shooting, and a witness in court identified Linehan as the shooter. Linehan was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, along with additional prison time for weapons and conspiracy charges.
Thomas, aged 38, was Linehan's co-defendant and was arrested in May 2021 in Hanover, Maryland. He pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and conspiracy charges, receiving a sentence of 2½ to 10 years in prison. Both Linehan and Thomas maintained their innocence, with Linehan vowing to appeal his conviction.
