On June 9, 2024, 17-year-old Chester High School student Sabrie "Breezy" Pierce was fatally shot outside the Wallingford Estates Apartments in Chester, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred around 8:11 p.m. during an attempted marijuana transaction involving two ounces of the substance. Pierce was shot twice in the chest by an assailant who approached the vehicle from a nearby wooded area. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In the days following the shooting, authorities arrested 17-year-old Abdullah N. Muslim in connection with Pierce's death. Muslim was charged as an adult with first-degree murder and related offenses. Surveillance footage reportedly captured Muslim at the scene, and he was apprehended within 48 hours of the incident. During the investigation, Muslim allegedly provided inconsistent statements to law enforcement.
Subsequently, a second suspect, 16-year-old Tyjohn Walker-Jones, was arrested in Newark, Delaware, on July 16, 2024. Walker-Jones is also being charged as an adult with first-degree murder and related offenses. Both suspects are accused of participating in the fatal shooting during the botched drug transaction. The arrests have brought some measure of progress in the case, though the community continues to mourn the loss of a young life.
Pierce's death has had a profound impact on the Chester community, particularly at Chester High School, where he was known for his vibrant personality and kind heart. In response to the tragedy, the school district provided social workers and counselors to support grieving students and staff. A memorial service was held on June 21, 2024, at Lewis Hunts Funeral Home in Chester, allowing friends and family to honor Pierce's memory and share their stories of the remarkable person he was.
