In March of 2011, the life of 27-year-old Jennifer Lindsay Snyder, a veterinary technician from Lower Macungie, Pennsylvania, was tragically cut short. On March 16, her roommate reported her missing. Just two days later, her body was discovered in a wooded area within the Trexler Nature Preserve in North Whitehall Township. An autopsy would later reveal that the young woman, who was ten to twelve weeks pregnant with a boy, had been shot three times.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on
David A. Rapoport, a 30-year-old married veterinarian from Upper Gwynedd Township. Snyder and Rapoport had met while working at the same veterinary hospital and had been involved in an affair for over two years. Authorities learned that Snyder had recently informed Rapoport that she was pregnant with his child, a revelation that reportedly did not sit well with him. Investigators believe Rapoport murdered Snyder to prevent his wife from discovering his infidelity and the resulting pregnancy. Evidence found in Snyder's abandoned car, including a shattered back window, bloodstains, shell casings, and the strong odor of bleach, tied Rapoport to the crime.
Six days after Snyder's murder, David Rapoport was arrested and charged with the murders of both Jennifer and her unborn child. In a move to avoid the death penalty, Rapoport pleaded guilty in December 2011 to two counts of first-degree murder. For his crimes, he received two consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole.
