Dane Michael Freedman, a 25-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity from Camp Hill, PA, tragically passed away on December 13, 2013. Dane was a proud Marine who served two combat tours, one in Iraq and another in Afghanistan, where he earned several commendations for his bravery and service. Despite his accomplishments, Dane struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder upon returning home.
His battle with PTSD was a constant struggle, and ultimately, he took his own life to end that internal fight.
Dane was well-loved and remembered for his infectious smile, adventurous spirit, and caring nature. He graduated from Camp Hill High School in 2007 and was survived by his parents, Donnamarie and Ronald Freedman, and his siblings. His girlfriend, Kristina Miller, and a large extended family also mourned his loss.
There were no arrests, suspects, litigations, or murder investigations related to Dane's death, as it was determined to be a suicide. The community honored Dane's memory by establishing the Dane Michael Freedman Suicide Scholarship Fund to support students in his name.
Dane's story is a poignant reminder of the invisible battles many veterans face and the importance of mental health support for those who have served their country.
