On a Sunday evening, just before 8 p.m. on December 27, 2009, tragedy struck 25-year-old Brandon Tyree McCullough, an African American male, in Savannah, Georgia. He was fatally shot outside his apartment at the Oaks of Brandlewood, the victim of a single, close-range gunshot wound to the head from a. 38 caliber weapon. When police arrived, they found McCullough slumped against a wall with a lit cigarette still in his mouth.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into McCullough's death quickly revealed a few leads, but ultimately led to a dead end. Two female bystanders were present at the time of the shooting, but they were reportedly not forthcoming with information for the authorities. Other witnesses in the apartment complex reported hearing a single gunshot and seeing a dark-skinned Black male with dreadlocks fleeing the scene in an older model, two-toned white and pale yellow Ford F-150 truck. The shooter was heard yelling, 'If you're gonna call the cops, call them!'.
Further investigation uncovered that McCullough may have been involved in an altercation with a group of approximately five individuals at a place called Yamaha Craw Village a week prior to his murder. Despite these pieces of information, no arrests have ever been made in connection with the homicide of Brandon McCullough. His case has grown cold over the years, leaving his family without answers and his killer or killers still at large. Authorities have periodically asked for the public's help, encouraging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward.
