On the evening of Sunday, February 17, 2019, tragedy struck in a Philadelphia neighborhood, forever altering the lives of the family and friends of Raysonno Williams Jr. The 18-year-old Black male was on the 1200 block of South 60th Street when the sound of gunfire shattered the night. When police responded to the scene at approximately 7:27 p.m., they discovered Williams lying in the street, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders quickly transported him to Penn
Presbyterian Medical Center in an effort to save his life. Despite the urgent medical attention he received, the severity of his injuries proved to be insurmountable. Raysonno Williams Jr. was pronounced dead at the hospital, his promising future cut tragically short by an act of violence.
A resident of the 6000 block of Angora Terrace, Williams' death sent ripples of grief through his community. The motive for the shooting and the circumstances leading up to it remained unclear in the immediate aftermath, leaving his loved ones with more questions than answers.
The Philadelphia Police Department opened a homicide investigation into Williams' death. To date, the case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made. Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects in the shooting. The police department continues to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case and bring those responsible for Raysonno Williams Jr.'s death to justice.
