In the pre-dawn hours of May 14, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Kensington street, leaving a 42-year-old man from Norristown dead. Shawn D. Baskins, a White male, was found by Philadelphia Police inside a pickup truck on the 100 block of West Cambria Street at approximately 3:55 a.m., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.
Two other men were also in the truck with Baskins
and were wounded in the attack. A 49-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to his arms and legs, and a 40-year-old man was shot in the leg. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment. Investigators believe the pickup truck was specifically targeted. It is reported that a gunman approached the vehicle, opened a door, and fired at least fifteen shots into the cab.
The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit is handling the investigation. Authorities have been reviewing surveillance footage from the area in an effort to identify a suspect or a getaway vehicle. In the days following the shooting, detectives were also trying to determine the connection between the three victims and whether the incident was related to another fatal shooting that occurred nearby just hours earlier.
As of now, the case remains an unsolved homicide. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The police have not released a description of the shooter. A reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
