On the evening of August 23, 2024, a chaotic and violent scene unfolded on the 600 block of North 12th Street in Philadelphia, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Kyshon Parson-Wright. A Black male, Parson-Wright was standing outside at approximately 6:18 p.m. when a black Jeep suddenly pulled up. Two armed individuals exited the vehicle and began chasing him down the street.
The pursuit was tragically interrupted by gunfire.
In an attempt to escape his attackers, Parson-Wright tried to enter a car that was on the street. Inside this vehicle was a 9-year-old boy. The assailants opened fire on Parson-Wright, and during the barrage of bullets, the young boy was also struck. As the gunmen fled in their Jeep, Parson-Wright, who was also armed, fired back at them.
When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene, they found both Parson-Wright and the wounded child. They were both rushed to Jefferson Hospital for medical treatment. The 9-year-old boy was listed in stable condition. However, Kyshon Parson-Wright succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:31 p.m. that same evening.
Investigators recovered a firearm from inside a residence on the block where the shooting occurred. Despite the public nature of the attack, the two gunmen remain at large. The Philadelphia Police Department has offered a $20,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the murder of Kyshon Parson-Wright. To date, no arrests have been made in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
