On November 22, 2024, 48-year-old Moneer Farhat was fatally shot in Philadelphia's Frankford neighborhood. The incident occurred near the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street, close to the SEPTA Frankford Transportation Center. According to reports, 39-year-old Sherwayne Garrison left his Honda vehicle running and unattended while he used an ATM. During this time, Farhat allegedly entered the vehicle and attempted to drive away.
Upon noticing his car being taken, Garrison fired a single shot, striking Farhat in the head.
After being shot, Farhat crashed the vehicle into a nearby taxi. Responding officers from the Philadelphia Police Department and SEPTA Police found Farhat inside the crashed car with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Temple University Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m.
At the scene, Garrison approached SEPTA Police officers and identified himself as the shooter. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and related offenses. Garrison, a licensed gun owner, reportedly fired into the vehicle as Farhat attempted to steal it.
The incident has raised discussions about the use of lethal force in property crimes and the legal implications of such actions. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Garrison is currently awaiting trial for the charges filed against him.
