On January 21, 2014, 27-year-old Fidel O. Velez was fatally shot in Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred at the home of his friend, Eric James Fennell, on Swede Hill Road. According to Fennell, the shooting was accidental. He claimed that he and Velez were playing with a gun, which accidentally discharged and struck Velez in the chest.
