In the early morning hours of a Friday in June, the quiet of a Shaler Township neighborhood in Pittsburgh was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On June 13, 2014, 43-year-old Sharon Demore lay in wait on the porch of her estranged boyfriend's home on Louann Street. As he emerged to leave for work at approximately 6:30 a.m., Demore opened fire, shooting him multiple times before turning the gun on herself.
Neighbors, startled by the series of shots, heard a man crying out for help and quickly alerted the authorities.
Upon their arrival, police discovered the male victim critically wounded and Demore deceased on the side porch from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A gun registered to her was found next to her body. Her estranged boyfriend was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, having sustained gunshot wounds to his back and shoulder. The incident was quickly identified by law enforcement as an attempted murder-suicide.
The couple was known to have had a volatile 'on-again, off-again' relationship, and had been separated for about six months prior to the tragic event. Those who knew them described their relationship as tumultuous, with a history of domestic issues, though police had not previously been called to the residence. Family members indicated that Demore had been struggling with personal hardships and financial problems following her divorce. Sharon Demore was a mother of four children. The investigation concluded that Demore was the sole actor in the violent encounter, and as a result, no arrests were made.
