In the early morning hours of a cold February day in Pittsburgh, a tragedy unfolded that would leave a family and a community in shock. Cindy Woods, a 58-year-old woman, lost her life in a violent encounter that ended a tense standoff with police in the city's Hays neighborhood.
The events began to unfold around 1:40 a.m. on February 3, 2020, when police were alerted to a hostage situation at a duplex on Baldwin Road.
A man who had escaped the home flagged down officers, setting in motion a response that would involve the SWAT team. When authorities arrived, they surrounded the residence and made contact with the suspect inside, who refused to surrender.
