In the early morning hours of September 6, 2014, the life of Nathaniel O. Green, a 39-year-old Black male from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was tragically cut short. Police responded to reports of shots fired near Reese and Evergreen Streets around 5 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Green lying in the street behind a church, suffering from several gunshot wounds to his upper and lower torso.
He was rushed to Harrisburg Hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Nathaniel, known to some as 'Nate' or 'Man,' was a father to four children: three daughters, Teyanna Hosby, Brianna Minter, and Leeann Green, and a son, Zahir Green. Born in Harrisburg on April 21, 1975, he was employed by Packer Sanitation. In his leisure time, he was known for his love of playing basketball and writing poetry. He was also a member of the Cornerstone Church of the Living God. Friends and family remembered him as a good guy with a beautiful smile.
The investigation into Nathaniel Green's death was handled as a homicide, with authorities working to gather evidence and identify potential suspects. In the immediate aftermath, police indicated they were actively pursuing some leads and encouraged the public to come forward with any information. A makeshift memorial with a teddy bear was placed near the scene of the shooting by grieving neighbors.
