On December 9, 2014, Jose Tito Carrero, a 24-year-old man from Allentown, PA, was tragically killed in a home invasion robbery. Carrero was shot in the chest while his 4-year-old daughter was sleeping next to him. The incident occurred at Carrero's West Pine Street apartment, where he was fatally shot during a confrontation with two armed men who broke into his home to steal money and synthetic marijuana.
The suspects, Eric Monroe Davis and another unidentified man referred to as
"Animal," were involved in the crime. Davis, who did not fire the bullets that killed Carrero, was still found guilty of second-degree murder, robbery, burglary, aggravated assault, and conspiracy. Davis was arrested in June 2016 after his DNA was matched to a hat left at the crime scene. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The case was investigated by Allentown police detectives Damian Murray and Erik Landis, along with the Lehigh County district attorney’s Homicide Task Force. The investigation revealed that Davis conspired with "Animal" to commit the robbery, and during the confrontation, Carrero was fatally shot while another man in the apartment, Jose Morales, was shot in the leg.
Carrero's death had a profound impact on his family, especially his two children. His mother, Glorivi Lima, expressed her grief and anger during the sentencing, stating that her son's death had devastated their entire family. The court also ordered Davis to pay restitution to Carrero's family.
