In the predawn hours of May 10, 2006, a 17-year-old Hispanic male named John Andujar III was tragically killed in front of his home in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The young man, a ninth-grade student at Dieruff High School, was lured outside by a text message he received at approximately 2:55 a.m.
Stepping out of his residence at 1029 S. Carlisle St. in the Cumberland Gardens housing development, Andujar approached a car that had pulled up.
After a brief conversation with an occupant of the vehicle, he began to walk away. However, he was called back to the car and was then shot twice in the neck.
His sister, hearing the gunshots, rushed outside to find her brother lying on the ground. Andujar was transported to St. Luke's Hospital-Fountain Hill, where he was pronounced dead at 3:26 a.m. The family, who had moved to Allentown from New York City to escape crime, was left devastated by the senseless act of violence.
The Allentown Police Department opened an investigation into the homicide. At the time, District Attorney James B. Martin stated that while there were no immediate suspects in custody, the police had some leads they were pursuing. Despite their efforts, the case remains unsolved and is now considered a cold case. The Allentown Police Department's Cold Case Unit continues to seek information from the public that might lead to a break in the case and bring justice for John Andujar III and his family.
