Carmelo E. Narvaez, 39, a Hispanic/Latino male from Allentown, Pennsylvania, was killed by gunfire on the afternoon of March 23, 2016, in south Allentown. Public reports described the shooting as happening near a playground, a setting that made the violence especially alarming because children were nearby when shots rang out. As the gunfire erupted, children scattered from the area, and the scene quickly turned from an ordinary neighborhood afternoon into a homicide investigation.
