On December 31, 2021, Jermel Johnson, a 25-year-old Black man from Northampton, PA, was shot and killed in Allentown. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Ninth and Gordon streets. Johnson was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township. The Lehigh County Coroner's Office ruled his death a homicide.
